For the most part, warehouse safety regulations don’t change much on a month-to-month basis. Many of the rules that you follow in your warehouse today are the same rules that warehouses have been subject to for decades. However, you can’t take that for granted. As soon as you decide the rules are never going to change, they will. Not staying up-to-date on safety regulations can leave your warehouse vulnerable to liability lawsuits, workman’s compensation claims, and increased rates of accidents and injuries. That’s why no matter how long you’ve been in the warehouse industry, it’s a good idea to stay up-to-date on warehouse safety requirements.

Did you know that RMH Systems offers warehouse inspection services? We can help you ensure that your equipment is safe. Give our warehouse consultants a call to learn more about our inspection services and to schedule an inspection time for your warehouse.

So how do you stay up-to-date on the latest safety information for warehouses? Our warehouse consultants have some suggestions about how you can be proactive about safety information.

Check the OSHA website.

OSHA should be your first stop for safety information since they are the ones who are going to investigate your warehouse if you aren’t doing something correctly and could end up fining you. Check their website often. They have a comprehensive site that’s packed with safety information, along with access to services like consultations, compliance assistance, and ways to report incidents. You’ll also be able to find updates on safety regulations, safety checklists, lists of safety posting requirements, and so much more.

Read warehouse industry blogs.

The RMH Systems blog is a great place to start! We’ll do our best to keep you up-to-date on any new safety rules that come out or change. There are tons of excellent blogs out there detailing the warehouse and materials handling industry. Look for blogs that are written by industry experts and warehouse consultants from trusted companies like RMH Systems. If you do read about a new rule or regulation, it’s always a good idea to fact check the information with OSHA or another oversight organization to verify it.

Create news alerts.

Google allows you to create a “keyword alert” for news articles. When news articles show up online that meet your keyword requirements, Google will email you and let you know. You can set news alerts up for a variety of topics, but try “warehouse safety” as a start. That way, anytime a news article arrives on Google news (an amalgamation of 1,000’s of news sites), it will be delivered right to your inbox. At the very least, you’ll get to read stories about what other warehouses are doing wrong (and getting fined for by OSHA) and prevent the same thing from happening in your own warehouse.

Attend regular safety training meetings.

In addition to staying up-to-date on new information, it’s a good idea to keep old information fresh in your mind. Attend safety training sessions at least once a year and make sure that your warehouse team members do the same. This will help you keep all the rules fresh in your mind so you can be sure your warehouse is following all regulations, no matter how old or new they might be.
