We recently posted about a case study where our warehouse consultants helped a film production company nearly double their existing storage space for pallets, going from 7,900 spots to nearly 12,000. An important part of that project was the warehouse equipment that was used to accomplish the results. Let’s take a closer look at that equipment and see if it might be right for your warehouse, too.

Warehouse Equipment Used to Nearly Double Storage Capacity

Drive-In Pallet Racking

This pallet racking option is great for putting a lot of storage into a small space. It eliminates the aisles that are normally required between each pallet racking row. This means it’s best for storing large quantities of the same item. You’ll be able to drive a forklift into the pallet racking to retrieve items easily.

Is it right for your warehouse?

If you are running out of space in your warehouse, this is the highest-density storage solution that you’ll find for pallets. But it will only work if you are storing a large number of the same item; that’s because you won’t have access to the items in the back unless you move items out of the way. So if you have a lot of the same thing on a pallet, it could be perfect.

Selective Pallet Racking

This is the most common pallet-racking option out there. You’ll find it in almost every warehouse or distribution center around the world. We primarily used selective pallet racking in this project for SKUs with low inventory, especially if they were quicker moving items. The film production company needed a lot of their existing selective pallet racking repaired or replaced, and we helped them with both.

Is it right for your warehouse?

It would almost be more surprising if you weren’t already using selective pallet racking! It offers easy access to all items, so it’s good if you have a large number of different SKUs. It’s not the most space efficient option, though, but if you use other items like wire decking you can increase your capacity and create an efficient system.

Wire Decking

Wire decking is a great addition to your pallet racking. That’s because wire decking converts pallet racks from simply being great for pallets to shelving that’s great for cartons of all sizes. It’s also fire resistant and doesn’t restrict visibility, plus it can prevent damage to items if they fall off of the pallet itself. There are plenty of pros to this affordable addition.

Is it right for your warehouse?

We can almost guarantee that wire decking could be a useful addition to your warehouse. Unless you only work with pallets and will only ever work with pallets, you should have some wire decking on hand. It’s affordable, too, so you can quickly install wire decking where you need it without much hassle or expense.

What Else Does Your Warehouse Need?

These are just three warehouse equipment options that can be used to improve the efficiency of your warehouse! There are so many other options out there when it comes to finding the right warehouse equipment. It’s a matter of working with an experienced warehouse consultant who understands what equipment is out there, how it works, and how it can help improve the efficiency of your warehouse.
