As much as everybody is reminded about the importance of safety in any warehouse, it still is quite easy to overlook sometimes. Much of the time, it is completely unintentional as we get too busy and just plain forget. We often take for granted that workplace injuries have been on the decline, and this sometimes lulls us into a sense of security, so we then drop our guard. We simply assume that injuries to workers and damage to company property just won’t happen to us. This is a dangerous attitude and must be avoided. And while it can be a hassle, it is critical to take the necessary precautions when working in a warehouse.

One thing often overlooked concerning your pallet rack system at your Chicago warehouse is rack capacity labels. Warehouse managers often aren’t aware that pallet rack systems require capacity labels, or perhaps they just aren’t aware of who should be in charge of this task. Outfitting your pallet rack system with capacity labels isn’t a difficult task at all, so no need to feel pressure. All you really need to do is place a label on your rack, in a conspicuous area, with information including the maximum permissible load, average unit load, total load per bay, and storage levels with multiple stacking of unit loads.

As you are all aware, an ounce of prevention saves a pound of cure. Rather, safety begins with the simplest and easiest of steps. A simple label could wind up saving your company thousands in damage and missed work. In fact, right now is a great time to hold a meeting concerning safety matters.
